Hygiene Hub: Empowering 25,000 Girls in Gorakhpur with Essential Hygiene Awareness

In a significant step towards promoting women’s health and environmental sustainability, Sewa Sankalp, with the generous support of the State Bank of India (SBI), successfully organized the “Hygiene Hub” awareness campaign across eight districts of Gorakhpur. This impactful initiative reached approximately 25,000 girls, providing them with crucial knowledge about good health practices and the environmental impact of sanitary waste.

Hygiene Hub: Empowering 25,000 Girls in Gorakhpur with Essential Hygiene Awareness

Addressing a Critical Need: The Hygiene Hub Initiative

The “Hygiene Hub” program was designed to address the pressing need for comprehensive hygiene education among young girls in the Gorakhpur region. Many girls lack access to accurate information about menstrual hygiene and safe disposal practices, leading to health risks and environmental concerns. Sewa Sankalp, with the support of SBI, aimed to bridge this gap and empower girls to take control of their health.

Empowering Girls with Knowledge: Health and Sustainability

The campaign focused on two key aspects:

  • Promoting Good Health: The program provided girls with essential information about menstrual hygiene, personal cleanliness, and the importance of maintaining good health practices. Experts conducted interactive sessions and workshops, addressing common misconceptions and providing practical advice.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Recognizing the environmental impact of improper sanitary pad disposal, the “Hygiene Hub” campaign emphasized the importance of eco-friendly disposal methods. The program highlighted the harm caused by traditional disposal practices and promoted the use of sanitary pad disposal machines.

Practical Solutions: Sanitary Pad Disposal Machines

As a crucial component of the program, Sewa Sankalp facilitated the free installation of sanitary pad disposal machines in various locations across the eight districts. This practical solution provides girls with a safe and hygienic way to dispose of sanitary waste, minimizing environmental pollution and promoting responsible waste management.

A Collaborative Effort: Sewa Sankalp and SBI

The success of the “Hygiene Hub” campaign is a testament to the power of collaboration. Sewa Sankalp’s dedication to community development, combined with SBI’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, has resulted in a significant positive impact on the lives of thousands of girls.

Making a Lasting Impact: The Importance of Hygiene Awareness

The “Hygiene Hub” program is more than just an awareness campaign; it’s an investment in the health and well-being of young girls. By providing them with the knowledge and resources they need, Sewa Sankalp and SBI are empowering them to make informed decisions about their health and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.

Children from Slums Enjoy Theatre: A Dream Come True

For many children living in the slums of Lucknow, simple experiences that most take for granted are but a distant dream. On February 9th, 2025, that dream became a reality for a group of children from the free education centers run by Sewa Sankalp. These children, some as young as five years old, experienced the magic of theatre for the very first time, watching the movie “Sky Force” at the Novelty Theatre in Lalbagh.

A First for Many: Experiencing the Big Screen

Sewa Sankalp, an NGO dedicated to the holistic development of children in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, has been working tirelessly for 33 years without any government funding. Their commitment to providing free education and opportunities for underprivileged children is truly inspiring. This theatre outing was a testament to that commitment.

Imagine the excitement of a five-year-old seeing their favorite actor, Akshay Kumar, on a screen larger than they could ever have imagined. Khushi, from the Buddheshwar free education center, couldn’t contain her joy, clapping and cheering throughout the movie. For these children, who had never before stepped inside a movie theatre, the experience was nothing short of magical.

The Joy of Dreams Realized

The beaming faces of the children from Saadatganj and other Sewa Sankalp centers spoke volumes. The trip to the Novelty Theatre was more than just a movie outing; it was a chance to escape their daily realities and immerse themselves in a world of stories and entertainment. It was a chance to simply be children.

“Coming to the theatre was like a dream for them,” shared a Sewa Sankalp volunteer. “This dream has been made true by Sewa Sankalp Sanstha.”
